Characteristics of PBL

Self-directed learning for acquisition of new information.

The learning needs to be student-centered. ​

The learning has to occur in small student groups under the guidance of a tutor. ​

The tutor acts as a facilitator or guide. ​

The learning starts with the authentic problem. ​

The problems encountered are used as a tool to achieve the required knowledge and the problem-solving skills necessary to eventually solve the problem. ​

PBL Environment

Students working in teams to experience and explore relevant, RealWorld problems, questions, issues, and challenges; then creating presentations and products to share what they have learned.
